Paul Stache fundó Smoke Sessions en 2014 para llevar la acústica de su club en Broadway a las bateas. En vez de pulir imperfecciones en un estudio aséptico, el sello nació capturando la vibración del escenario con micrófonos de cinta y grabadoras Studer. El debut de Jimmy Cobb con *The Original Mob* demostró que el hard bop de la vieja escuela no necesitaba nostalgia, sino aire y espacio. Importa porque devolvió al jazz moderno la urgencia física del directo, donde el error y la genialidad conviven en la misma toma.
