BYG fue un sello francés que en 1969 hizo algo que no volvió a pasar: llevó a París a los músicos del free jazz negro norteamericano —Archie Shepp, el Art Ensemble of Chicago, Don Cherry, Sunny Murray, Andrew Cyrille— y los grabó casi en cadena, muchos discos en pocas semanas. Esa tanda es la serie Actuel, y quedó como el documento más completo de esa música en su momento más incandescente. El sello duró poco y sus derechos anduvieron dando vueltas durante décadas; las reediciones que hoy se consiguen vienen de las cintas originales.
