McNiece y Allen fundaron el sello en Chicago en 2014 para registrar la improvisación local sin la rigidez académica. El quiebre llegó en 2015 con In the Moment de Makaya McCraven: grabaciones en vivo procesadas con lógica de beatmaker. Ahí se definió su firma. No es jazz de museo ni mera experimentación; es música comunitaria que cruza el free jazz con el hip-hop y el legado post-rock de la ciudad. Editaron a Jaimie Branch y Jeff Parker bajo la premisa de que el disco es un documento vivo del presente.
