En 2003, el productor Brian Camelio programó desde Manhattan una plataforma para que los músicos de jazz grabaran sin depender de las discográficas. Así nació ArtistShare, el primer espacio de financiamiento colectivo de la red. El hito llegó rápido: en 2005, Concert in the Garden de Maria Schneider ganó un Grammy sin pisar una disquería física. No era solo tecnología; era un refugio ético donde Jim Hall, Bob Brookmeyer o Chris Potter mantenían el control de sus cintas. La plataforma demostró que la complicidad del oyente sostiene al jazz mejor que cualquier contrato.
