David Bowerman fue agricultor durante cuarenta años antes de retirarse a su finca de West Sussex y construir, en 1999, una sala de conciertos de madera para 160 personas en medio del bosque. En 2010 la convirtió en estudio para fundar Champs Hill Records. El sello nació sin fines de lucro para darles a músicos jóvenes la oportunidad de grabar su primer disco con acústica excelente y sin presiones comerciales. El registro inaugural de la soprano Felicity Lott, *Call me Flott*, definió una ética donde el repertorio infrecuente importa más que el negocio.
