David Dickenson fundó el sello en Seattle en 1996 sin saber tocar un instrumento, operando desde el placard de su departamento. Empezó editando singles de siete pulgadas para bandas de amigos como 764-Hero y Modest Mouse, y terminó dándole cobijo a la melancolía crepuscular de Elliott Smith en 'Division Day'. Suicide Squeeze nunca buscó la prolijidad del grunge tardío ni la masividad corporativa; prefirió el ruido artesanal, el post-hardcore áspero y el pop de guitarras desprolijas. Es el mapa de una ciudad que siguió creando cuando las luces de las multinacionales se apagaron.
