English tenor vocalist, writer and academic. He started his career in the 70s in several avant-garde projects (Swingle II, Electric Phoenix, New London Consort). After being backing vocalist for Manfred Mann, The Who and Mike Oldfield among others, he joined the Hilliard Ensemble in 1984 (which he left 17 years later). In 1989 he started the ensemble Red Byrd.
