American jazz bassist. He played trombone in the band led by his father Jimmy Woode Sr. (born 24 October 1912, died 28 March 2005), piano in churches and sang in vocal ensembles before 1945. He mainly played bass after World War II with – among others – Louis Armstrong, Charlie Parker, Ella Fitzgerald, Miles Davis, Dizzy Gillespie and Sarah Vaughan.
